An Austrian name Emil Vodder developed a gentle form of massage which mater become known as Manual Lymph Drainage. Manual Lymph Drainage is a simple method of gentle rhythmical massage along the superficial lymphatic system that accelerates the functions of the lymphatic system. It can effectively treat chronic lymphademia and other disease in which venous or lymph circulation has been hindered. Manual Lymph drainage can speed the healing from surgery or injury and can ride the body of toxins that build up in the body.

Sometime in the 1940s Bindegewebsmassage was developed and has become popularly known as connective tissue massage. A German, Elizabeth Dicke developed this technique of massage is it directed towards the subcutaneous connective tissue in the body and is believed to affect vascular and visceral reflexes that can be traced back to a variety of pathologies and disabilities.

Dr. James H Cyriax widely credited with the development of deep transverse friction massage was an English Orthopedic physician. This method of massage was developed to break down the adhesion that can be found in fibrous connective tissue of muscles, tendons and ligaments. Which can restore mobility in the joints and incorporates stretching and active exercise for the patient. Transverse friction is still very popular in physical therapy and massage therapy regimes. Transverse friction is an effective treatment in restorative and rehabilitation of muscle and soft tissue injuries.

The American Massage therapy association (amta), which began in 1943 is the largest and oldest of the professional organizations in the massage industry. The Florida State Massage Therapy Association (fsmta) is one of the most respected massage therapy associations in the country which holds annual meetings and conventions. Each of these organizations offer discounted malpractice and liability insurance for its members and offers Continuing education in the field of massage to help achieve a better level of professional understanding in the field of massage.

This review is intended for massage therapist for furthering education in the field. This is part two of this system.

Epithelial membranes that line body surfaces opening directly to the exterior of the body are called mucous membranes. These membranes line the respiratory, digestive, urinary and reproductive membranes. Mucous keeps the mucous membranes moist and soft in texture. The point of fusion where the skin and mucous membranes meet is called the mucocutaneous junction. This junction places the body without Integumentary system accessory organs such as hair, nails, or sweat glands including the eyelid, nasal openings, vulva and anus.

Connective membranes do not contain epithelial tissues, yet the connective tissue membranes that line the spaces between bones and joints are synovial membranes. Synovial membranes line the small, cushionlike sacs as known as bursae found between the moving parts.

Subaceous is simple another name for oil glands of the skin. The outermost layer of the epidermis is comprised of stratified squamous epithelium. Where as the dermis is the deeper layer of the skin. The dermis is made of up mostly connective tissue which supports the layers of skin and is a think layer of loose connective tissue and fat or adipose. The layer that is also known as the hypodermis is called the subcutaneous layer of skin. This portion of the skin insulates the body from extremes of heat and cold, which is also known as the subcutaneous hypodermis layer or subcutaneous hypodermus tissue.

The fat in the subcutaeous structure of skin serves as a stored source of energy and can be used as a food source, it also can act as a shock absorbing pad and helps underlying tissues of the body keep from getting injured.

There are four types of tissue Epithelial, connective, muscle, and nervous an easy way to remember this is the acronym CMEN. Gila and neuron cells are tissues of this system. Nervous tissue is for Rapid communication system and control, glia and neuron cells are tissues of this system.

Gila are called the nerve glue they are nervous system cells and are supporting tissue for the neurons. Neurons are conducting units which can be dendrites and axons. A dendrite is a structure that takes information to the neuron cell body and an axon is a structure that carries information away from the neuron cell of the body.

The three types of muscle tissue are Skeletal, Cardiac, and smooth. Skeletal muscle is striated and voluntary muscle tissue which is used to move bones. Cardiac muscle is striated and involuntary muscle tissue. Cardiac muscle also has dark bands called intercalated discs. Smooth and involuntary tissue can be blood vessels, hallow organs, intestines, bronchials, etc. Epithelial tissue of the body is a type of tissue that is packed tightly, little or no matrix, avascular, little or no inter-cellular material. Epithelial tissue function is secretion, absorption, and protection.

Epithelial tissue can also be broken down into four parts they are Squamous, Cuboidal, Columnar, transitional. Squamous epithelial tissue is tissue that is flat and scale-like, Columnar tissue is tissue that is longer than wide, and transitional tissue is it varies in shape and can stretch.

Connective tissue is the most abundant in the human body and is widely distributed tissue it also functions as connective and supports the body. There are seven types of connective tissue in the body they are meet by another acronymDAB BACH which stands for Areolar, Adipose, Fibrous connective, bone, cartilage, blood, and homiletic. Areolar is the most abundant type of connective tissue followed by adipose or fat tissue. Fibrous connective tissue includes collagen for tendons which is strong while ad flexible, It connects muscle to bone and is for strength and flexibility yet it does not stretch. Bone has a calcified matrix is hard and rigid. Bone has a matrix which includes osteons or bone cells. Cartilage is hard but flexible has the consistency of firm plastic or gristle like gelatin. Cartilage is made of of Chondrocyte cells within the body. Blood is also considered connective tissue and has a liquid matrix which is called plasma. Finally, hemopoetic connective tissue is what forms red blood cells and lymphatic system cells.

For a massage therapist though not to forget the ligaments which connect bone to bone and the tendons which connect muscle to bone are very important types of connective tissue in the human body.
