The process of blood clotting. In general there are five steps that the body takes to create a blood clot. Once a injury occurs to the body.

Step 1: After injury, cell damage release clotting factors into the plasma of the blood.

Step 2: Platelets move in to the area of injury or where a broken blood vessel is and form a temporary platelet plug.

Step 3: Platelets once in the area release additional clotting factors.

Step 4: If Calcium in the blood is at a normal level, prothrombin is converted to thrombin.

Step 5: Thrombin reacts with fibrinogen to change it to a fibrous get like substance called fibrin.

Then the blood clot is known as a thrombus. Fribrous connective tissue is formed and the damage is repaired. The body will not go back to the way it was before the injury. However once you apply cross fiber friction to the area. The body will go in and start the breakdown and repair process of the scar tissue that lines the injury. Massage therapist are able to break down and start the healing process on the fibrous connective tissues that bunch up and over run the area during the healing process.
