Hard Economic Times (Insurance)
Well, I know times are tough and we can all use a little help. But, I must insist those of you that have insurance from your workplace should really take a good look at what your getting. Our clinic has seen a rash of people trying to use insurance but when they find out that they are going to have a 2500.00 (YES), Twenty-five hundred dollar deductible that they have to pay out of pocket before their insurance will pay anything. They gasp and question why so much and say, ” I simply can’t afford to get treatment then”.
Leaves me wondering how they thought that they had coverage of insurnace in the first place. Can you afford your deductible? What happens if you had to go to the emergency room and the check in nurse asks you how are you going to pay your deductible then?
In these tough time you should take the time to know all you can about your health care coverage that you get from your employer. You can get co-insurance or a supplemental insurance that will cover your deductibles and you should seriously consider this alternative unless you can simply pay out of pocket your deductibles.
You should also consider your co-pays that the insurance company is going to charge for each visit. If you have a co-pay of 20.00 per visit and your doctor writes a prescription for 2 visits per week for 8 weeks. Unless you have a max co-pay limit on your policy you are going to have to pay 40.00 x 8 = 640.00 out of pocket.
Consider the options that are out there before you agree to a larger co-pay to make your insurance affordable.
