Low Back Pain
Low back pain, boy do you know it when you have it. It overcomes you, you feel as if you are helpless you can’t move you can’t function, and most of all you just want it to go away. I found myself after the injury in the USN with low back pain. The doctor in charge of my case told me to do some stretching and exercises and it would go away. After 3 more visits he took x-rays, palpated the area and decided to put me on a muscle relaxer and pain medications. I was diagnosed with pulled groin muscle. However, looking back on the situation I don’t think the doctor took the time to really exam me closely. I think it was a problem with the piriformis now that I have been to massage therapy school and gone through months of testing with the muscles.
My symptoms match exactly paresthesia, numbness, and muscle weakness in the gluteal region or posterior lower extremity. The reason it matches is because I could not function properly at all I felt extreme pain when I tried to stand erect and walk normally. The pain travelled all the way down the back of my leg. Overworked or in elderly patients I would say the lack of work exhibited on these muscles would be common causes. I could also see how easy that it could be to misdiagnose the symptoms.
