Body cavities
There are five body cavities.
1) Name and describe each body cavity. Use anatomical terms (inferior, anterior, etc.) to indicate the location of each cavity.
Cranial cavity – Superior to all other cavities and encompasses the cranium.
Thoracic cavity – is inferior to the cranial cavity and superior to the abdominal cavity. The thoracic cavity is also Anterior to the spinal cavity.
Abdominal cavity – is inferior to the thoracic cavity and superior to the pelvic cavity. The abdominal cavity is also Anterior to the spinal cavity.
Pelvic cavity is the most inferior of the organ cavities in the body and is also anterior of the spinal cavity.
Cranial cavity – cerebellum, cerebrum, pituitary, occipital, thalamus, hypo thalamus, portions of the brain.
Thoracic cavity – heart, lungs, esophagus, trachea, bronchial tubes,
Spinal cavity – spinal cord, vertebrae
