An Austrian name Emil Vodder developed a gentle form of massage which mater become known as Manual Lymph Drainage. Sometime in the 1940s Bindegewebsmassage was developed and has become popularly known as connective tissue massage. A German, Elizabeth Dicke developed this technique of massage is it directed towards the subcutaneous connective tissue in the body and is believed to affect vascular and visceral reflexes that can be traced back to a variety of pathologies and disabilities.
Dr. James H Cyriax widely credited with the development of deep transverse friction massage was an English Orthopedic physician. This method of massage was developed to break down the adhesion that can be found in fibrous connective tissue of muscles, tendons and ligaments. Which can restore mobility in the joints and incorporates stretching and active exercise for the patient. Transverse friction is still very popular in physical therapy and massage therapy regimes. Transverse friction is an effective treatment in restorative and rehabilitation of muscle and soft tissue injuries.
