Digestive System Palate
The human palate, the sense of taste, often referred to as one of the greatest pleasures in life the taste of food. The body can eat food with more than one type of sense it takes many combined senses to comprise the palate. Eye sight, smell, taste, feel, and swallow all combine to make up the human palate. Yet the mechanical process in which the body digests food is a little more scientific than all that. The bony structures in the mouth are formed by parts of the palatine and maxillary bones they comprise the hard palate.
The soft palate, on the other hand, is a muscular structure that hangs down in the rear of the mouth and assists in preventing food and liquid from entering the respiratory system. The uvula is a portion of the soft palate which hands in the rear of the mouth to assist in directing food in the correct direction and keeps it from backing up into the nasal cavity.
On the tongue the taste buds are part of the sensory receptors of which can detect several types of sensations using the papilae that line the tongue. The sensory receptors can detect salty, sour, bitter, and sweet which are comprised of different chemicals that the body must ingest to maintain itself. They body from time to time will crave the nutrients that are lacking which in turn make us crave a particular food. Once the food enters our mouth our teeth are used to break down the food using incisors, canines, premolars, and molars. The medical term for the chewing of our food is called mastication. I will cover more about teeth in my next article.
