Circulatory System Blood

Well first lets review the two systems that provide transportation and protection for the body is the circulatory and lymphatic system. In blood  the liquid or extracellular fluid part of the blood is called plasma. The formed elements of blood are erytherocytes, luekocytes, thrombocytes, cell and cell fragments.  You could say its a hodge podge of fluids that need to be circulated throughout the body for some purpose to supply or clean up the actions that the body is doing even at rest. Chemicals needed by cells to stay alive that are carried by blood, which are dissolved in the blood are oxygen, salts, and food.  The blood cells that carry most of the oxygen are called red blood cells (RBC).

Wastes are dissolved in plasma and transported to excretory organs in the body where they are filtered and removed from the blood stream. The most abundant type of solute in the blood is plasma proteins.  Plasma proteins are called albumins are what help thicken the blood. Globulin’s are also plasma proteins that include antibodies that help protect us from infections entering the body from outside sources. Plasma proteins that are necessary for blood clotting are called fibrinogens. Plasma without its clotting factors that contains antibodies used to treat patients with certain needs is called serum.

The number of liters of blood in the typical adult accounts for 7-9% of their body weight and is usually 4 to 6 liters in volume. The formed elements of blood are the erythrocytes, leukocytes, and thrombocytes. Erythrocytes is just another name for Red Blood Cells(RBC), Leukocytes is which another name for White Blood Cells (WBC), and finnally another name for platelets is thrombocytes.
