Nervous System Cerebellum
The nervous system is a wondrous thing and it has been said that it hold the essence of our soul for storage and transportation. I don’t know about you but something has to be said for us to have consciousness and be aware of our surroundings. The brain houses the cerebellum which is the second largest part of the human brain. The cerebellum functions are to maintain normal movements, balance and precise movements, smooth coordinated movements, normal postures, and equilibrium. This is a enormous task considering the size of the cerebellum.
But on to the cerebrum its the largest and uppermost part of the brain, It has convolutions which as also known as gyri. The gyri are the ridges of the cerebrum. The sulci are called the grooves of the cerebrum. The deepest of the sulci are called fissures. Next we’ll talk about why the brain can talk to both sides of the brain, or have to ever heard the expression the right side doesn’t know what he left side is doing?
In the brain the structure that we call the corpus callosum is what connects the two hemispheres of the cerebrum and allows this communication from the left hemisphere to the right hemisphere of the brain. Breaking down the regions of the brain the temporal lobe of the brain contains the auditory center of the brain. Then on to the region that contains the sight center of the brain which is the occipital lobe of the brain.
Looking a little deeper in the brian the Cerebral nuclei or Islands of gray matter within the white matter are essential to produce automatic movements and posture of the body. The cerebral nuclei are also known as basal ganglia.
