Massage Consultation Review

Prior to the Consultation telephone questioning helps you screen for potential clients and will help you pair up the client with the proper therapist or location for the type of treatment that is requested.

The time that you take gathering information is part of the consultation it should be in written form on an intake form that the client can fill out once they arrive at your establishment. The intake form will help in saving time during the interviewing of the patient on intake.  Written forms should always be clarified verbally. This will assist in determining the tissue dysfunctions or content that the therapist before the session begins.  Notes on work performed on client is to be keep in clients file and no where else for someone else to see. Patient who is wearing contact lenses should not be touched on eyelids or even above on the eye browe this can dislodge the contact lens and cause the client to have to get up off the table to adjust the contact lens back into place and disrupt the session.  SOAP notes should be taken for each client an assessment will include the client’s history, observation and examination. Records should always be kept confidential. Reviewing records before visits refreshes therapists memory and gains patent’s trust.  Reviewing accurate records before a visit and after a visit will help the therapist achieve better results and is beneficial to the practitioner. A treatment plans is the outline the therapist follows.

A patch test can determine sensativity of a product and should be done during the consultation and check for reaction 15 – 30 minutes after apply to wrist or forearm.

Cient should be referred to physician when necessary if contraindications are found that should be looked at or a diagnosis is needed. Massage therapist can not diagnois or recommend treatment or prescribe medication.
